Two Corsairs Earn Little East Conference Honors
Feb. 7, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Freshman Brandon Higgins (Wareham MA/Upper Cape Cod Regional Vo Tech HS) was named LEC Men's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) was named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
At the Tufts Invitational, Higgins placed second overall in the high jump at 6-5, while posting the best mark among Division III competitors. Masse placed third in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, one inch.
"Brandon is having a very consistent year, and his first collegiate invitational is something he'll always remember," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "He has jumped 6-5 or 6-6 virtually every meet, and, as the year progresses, he's looking to try to add a few inches onto his personal best before the end of the season. Jessica has had a dominant freshman year. She actually wasn't pleased with her performance last week. She is looking to rebound, and qualify for the NCAAs."
The Corsairs will return to action when they participate in the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships Saturday at Southern Maine. .
