NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth cross country team ran well at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday.
"Our men did very well, we finished four places ahead of where we finished last year, even though we lost our top runner from last year's team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "Scott Bernazzani improved 1:26 from last year, Eric Karstunen was 1:42 faster, David Yumping was 1:30 faster and Matt Ferro was 2:45 better than last year. Our top four runners really ran well, finishing within 13 seconds of each other."
"Katie Sheehan did a terrific job for the women, her time is the eighth best on our all-time list for our course," said Hird. "She finished 1:25 faster than she did last year, and that's significant because it's a shorter race. Renee Laurencelle was 1:31 faster than last year. Our team ran well, and they felt good about how they did. In a meet this big, our two young teams rally kept their heads on straight. Overall, I thought things went about as well as possible, and we had 976 runners, and that's more than we've ever had at this meet."
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit the Wesleyan Invitational next Saturday.
