Sean Herlihy Earns LEC Cross Country Honors

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA Freshman Sean Herlihy (Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's cross country team has been honored by the Little East Conference.

Herlihy has been named Little East Conference Men's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Week.

Herlihy was among the men's top runners in each of the Corsairs' first two meets. He ranked second for the men's team and was 23rd overall at Saturday's Roger Williams Invitational, finishing five kilometers in 17:24. In UMD's opener the previous week at the Fens Classic, Herlihy was third among Corsairs and 13th overall in 17:15 for five kilometers.

"We're very happy to have Sean with us, he's becoming a better and better runner each week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "I don't know what his ultimate ability will be, but he's a great teammate and is already proving to be an important asset to our team. He is already racing very well, and when he gets the experience of racing five miles, I can see him really digging in at the end of the season."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host the UMD Invitational a week from Saturday.
