NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- For the third week in a row, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's cross country team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) has been named Little East Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, while freshman Ben Girard(Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex HS) has been named LEC Men's Rookie Runner of the Week.
Testa led the women at Saturday's Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston, finishing 33rd in 20:04 for the 5000 meter race. She was the highest finisher among LEC runners at the race. Girard finished 71st in 28:37 over the five mile course at tbe Codfish Bowl.
"One of the nice things about this fall is that Courtney has come back ready to be a real leader," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "It's very helpful to have someone who is that dependable and willing to take on the role of number one runner and the responsibility that goes along with it. She loves to race and she loves to compete and she is going to have a very good year."
"Ben is off to a nice start in his college career," said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Steve Gardiner. "He has been our number one runner in our first three meets of the season, and has established himself as one of the top freshmen in the Little East."
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit the James Early Invitational at Westfield State a week from Saturday.
