Women's Basketball Picked to Finish Fourth in LEC
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in this year's Little East Conference race.
The Corsairs received 43 points and one first place vote in the pre-season coaches' poll, putting them three points behind Rhode Island College and 12 points ahead of Eastern Connecticut State.
Southern Maine was picked to finish first, with 63 points and the other seven first place votes, while Western Connecticut State was picked second, with 47 points. Keene State, UMass Boston and Plymouth State were picked sixth, seventh and eighth.
"Our program has made great strides in the last four years," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "We are finally seen as a team that is in the mix of preseason favorites. We have more veterans compared to past years. The hard work and dedication of the players is what has propelled us to new heights. We have always believed we can reach the pinnacle at UMass Dartmouth, but this year we have more weapons at our disposal to make that goal a reality. I am excited about the season ahead and the chance to climb the LEC ladder. We are showing great promise, talent, and confidence."
The Corsairs will open their season at home Friday against Rivier in the UMass Dartmouth Basketball Classic, sponsored by the Fairfield Inn & Suites.
