CAPE COD, MA - A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team has received post-season honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Senior forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA/Canton HS) was named first team All-New England Region. She was previously named first team All-Little East Conference and LEC Player of the Year. She was the only LEC player to receive first team All-Region honors and was one of only two Little East Conference players named to the squad.
Moriarty led the LEC in scoring (19 points per game) and blocked shots (2 per game), while ranking third in field goal percentage (49.4 percent) and sixth in rebounds (8.3 per game). Moriarty started every game, scored in double figures on 26 occasions, and scored 20 or more points 12 times. Her career high of 35 points against Plymouth State January 26th allowed her to become the sixth Corsair to pass the 1,000 points mark, and she finished her UMD career with 1,174 points.
"Colleen finds herself in great company on the ECAC All-Northeast Region First Team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "Of the 10 talented players recognized, seven players and their respective teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Colleen led a young UMass Dartmouth team to the brink of the tournament. Her skills were recognized around the conference, and her stats, coupled with our finish in statistical categories, speaks to the impact player she was this season."
Moriarty helped lead the Corsairs to their most successful season ever, as they won a school-record total of 20 games and eight conference games, and advanced to the LEC championship game for the first time, finishing with a 20-8 record.
