Ronaghan Named NEWBA and LEC Rookie of the Week
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) and Little East Conference Rookie of the Week this afternoon by each conference office.
Ronaghan averaged 22 points, seven rebounds, and two assists per game to power UMass Dartmouth to a pair of Little East Conference victories this past week. The North Attleboro, Mass. product shot 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-for-13) from the foul line. Ronaghan scored 27 points, on 11-for-16 from the floor, and pulled in six boards to help the Corsairs hand Eastern Connecticut its first conference loss of the season. On Jan. 18, she filled up the box score against Keene State College with 17 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and three assists.
A starter in all 14 games, Ronaghan sits atop the Little East in free throw percentage (.854), while ranking among the conference leaders in points per game (2nd, 15.6 ppg), blocks per game (2nd, 1.7), field goal percentage (3rd, .533), and rebounding (12th, 5.6 rpg). She has reached double figures in scoring in 12 games, including scoring at least 20 points three times. Ronaghan registered a career-high 28 points against Castleton State in the finals of the Fairfield Inn & Suits tournament. She hauled in a season-best 10 rebounds against Salve Regina to post her first collegiate double-double. Ronaghan has been named the Little East Rookie of the Week four times on the campaign.
UMass Dartmouth (9-5, 3-2 LEC) will return to action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, when the Corsairs travel to Little East rival University of Massachusetts Boston (10-5, 2-3).
