DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) picked up two weekly awards on Monday, earning Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week following three strong offensive games.
The NEWBA honor marks the first on Kutil’s career after two Honor Roll selections last season, with the LEC nod serving as her first of the season. Last week, she led the Corsairs to a 2-1 record while averaging 18 points and 9.7 rebounds, converting on 51 percent from the field. In an 83-51 win at Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Kutil registered 21 points on 8-of-11 from the field with six rebounds and five assists. Two days later, she led the Corsairs with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double at No. 10 Bowdoin, making all six of her free-throw attempts despite a 91-53 loss. The senior captain concluded her week with 19 points at Plymouth State, rounding out her line with nine boards, two blocks, two steals and an assist en route to an 87-69 win in the LEC opener.
