PAWTUCKET, R.I. - University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball senior Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) received her second consecutive Player of the Week award Monday, marking the fourth time she has been recognized by the Little East Conference this year.
The nod comes following a 2-0 week for the Corsairs, as they started with a 71-62 victory over a tough Williams squad before taking a tenth-straight triumph over LEC opponents in an 84-55 rout of Southern Maine on Saturday. On the week, Kutil accumulated 37 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals.
In the first game of the week's slate on January 29 against Williams College, the senior posted her fifth straight double-double as she had game-highs with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while also picking up five points down the stretch to put away the Ephs in a back-and-fourth affair. On February 3, Alicia was one of three Corsairs in double-figures when she notched 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, adding five rebounds and four assists to help the team seal a season-series sweep of the Huskies.
Kutil has continued to make a strong case for conference player of the year, starting every game for the 17-3 Corsairs, and scoring 10-plus points in all but one game this year. Since her last award, she has moved up to second in the LEC for points per game with 19.9 and currently trails only teammate Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) in rebounds per game with 8.4. Alicia is also first for free-throw percentage (81.6%), third for blocks per game (1.1), and fifth in field goal percentage (49.5%)
UMass Dartmouth take on its final non-conference foe tonight at 7:00 pm against Worcester State, and will enter the final stretch of LEC opponents starting on Wednesday when the team travels to UMass Boston for a clash with the number-two seeded Beacons at 5:30 pm.
