DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth frontcourt of Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) and Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) were selected to the 2018 D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Region teams this afternoon. This is the first time in program history two Corsair teammates were honored by the nation's premier Division III basketball publication.
The frontcourt tandem led UMass Dartmouth to an overall record of 24-4, breaking the mark for most regular-season wins in program history. The Corsairs posted a 14-0 record within the Little East Conference to become just the second institution to run the table undefeated in conference action.
Kutil is the third consecutive UMass Dartmouth player to earn All-Northeast, first-team honors, joining Megan Ronaghan (2016) and Examond (2017). The Franklin, Mass. product was recently named the Little East Conference Player of the Year after guiding the Corsairs to the conference regular-season title. A team captain, Kutil ranked second on the team in points per game (18.8), rebounds per game (8.5), and free throw percentage (77.9), while third in field goal percentage (47.5). During a 26-point performance in a victory over Western Connecticut, she became the 11th UMass Dartmouth player to record 1,000 career points. Kutil started all 28 games this season, producing 20 or more points 12 times. She scored a career-high 33 points, on 15-for-24 from the field, at Western Connecticut. Kutil reached double figures in rebounds 11 times, including 18 at the Colonials. A four-year member of the Corsairs, Kutil started 86 of her 113 career contests. She will depart as the program's all-time scoring leader with 1,391 points, increasing the 32-year standard that was previously set by former UMass Dartmouth Hall of Famer Cathy Johnson. Kutil also produced 727 rebounds, 184 assists, 107 blocks, and 106 career steals.
Examond is making her second straight appearance on the All-Northeast Region teams, after earning first-team honors as a sophomore.
