NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- For the second consecutive week, freshman forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA/Canton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference. She also has been honored by the New England Women's Basketball Association.
Bornemann has been named LEC and NEWBA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. It's the first time an UMass Dartmouth player has earned NEWBA honors.
Bornemann was honored for her play in the Corsairs' two games last week. She averaged 17 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, making 15 of 26 shots from the field for 57.7 per cent, posting a double double in Saturday's win against Plymouth State (20 points and 12 rebounds) and just missing a double double in last Tuesday's win against UMass Boston (14 points and nine boards).
"Erika's offensive game is becoming more consistent, and it really showed in her stats during the last week's games, where we were able to grab a couple of wins," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "Erika is a big part of our offense. She gets a lot of touches, is really coming into her own, and is demonstrating more patience and poise."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Rhode Island College in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday.
