Erika Bornemann Earns Little East Conference Rookie Honors
Feb. 21, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Once again, freshman forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA/Canton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Bornemann has been named LEC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. It's the fifth time this season that Bornemann has earned the award, and the fourth time in the last five weeks.
Bornemann was honored for her play in the Corsairs' two games last week. She averaged a double double, 16.5 points and 10 rebounds, as the Corsairs split their games last week. She made 52.2 per cent (12-for-23) of her attempts from the field in the two games, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in Saturday's victory against Keene State that allowed UMass Dartmouth to clinch the fifth seed in this week's LEC Tournament.
"Erika put our team on her back this past week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "She was instrumental in guiding us to a huge win on Saturday. On the whole, she is a big reason why we earned the fifth seed in the LEC Tournament this season. Her future is bright as we look to add more talent on the perimeter that will free her to get more touches."
The Corsairs begin play in the Little East Conference Tournament when they visit Rhode Island College Tuesday evening.
