NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been picked to tie for fifth in the annual Little East Conference pre-season coaches' poll.

The Corsairs received 28 points and were tied with Keene State. Defending champion Western Connecticut State was picked first with 64 points and all eight first placed votes. Eastern Connecticut State was picked second, Southern Maine third and Rhode Island College fourth. Plymouth State and UMass Boston trailed the Corsairs and Owls.

"We finished sixth last year, so I can see how we were picked to finish in a similar position," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "We are projecting that we will finish higher. The usual contenders are picked ahead of the rest of the pack. We had extremely competitive games with the five schools ahead of last season, and we beat two of them."

The Corsairs will return to action when they play St. Joseph's (Maine) Friday at the Curry Tip-Off Tournament.
