NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman guard Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
For the second time this season, Garrity has been named LEC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Garrity averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week as UMass Dartmouth went 2-0. She made nine of 19 shots from the field for 47.4 per cent and added four assists and seven steals. In two games, she grabbed 16 defensive rebounds. In last Wednesday's game at Simmons, Garrity scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
"We're coming off a 2-0 week, and I think in large part, it was due to Kelsey's play," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "I've seen her grow with every game this semester. She's realizing how crucial every possession is, she's doing a better job of taking care of the ball, and she's clearly more comfortable with our offense. This experience will be extremely valuable to her as we begin LEC play again next semester."
The Corsairs are 6-3 and will return to action when they host Johnson & Wales Tuesday night.
