NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's cheerleading team will head south Wednesday as they attempt to defend their championship.

The Corsairs will compete as the defending champion at the National Cheerleading Association Championships at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, FL April 9th and 10th. UMass Dartmouth was the 2008 champion of the All-Girls Division III.

The competition will be tough, but UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Scott Bouchard is optimistic. "As returning national champions, we're excited for the competition," said Bouchard. "We are competing against some good teams, and we should face some tough competition. At this point, it's up to the girls to do what they've been doing all year. I'm confident that we will do well on both days of the competition."

The Corsairs will begin competition Thursday, with the finals scheduled for Friday evening.
