Kieran Qualifies for Nationals; Corsairs Tie For Third

GALES FERRY, Conn. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Sarah Kieran (Plympton, Mass.) qualified for nationals after taking first in her Open over fences class and second in her Open flat class at the Region 1 IHSA Show at Mystic Valley Hunt Club on Saturday. Kieran will be representing Zone 1 Region 1 as the Cacchione Cup rider at IHSA Nationals on May 1-4 in Harrisburg, Pa.

The Corsairs equestrian team tied for third place this past weekend. Senior co-captain Kathryn Gardner (Concord, Mass.) earned a first place finish in her Intermediate flat class and captured third in Novice over fences. Sophomore Alexandra Koury (Holden, Mass.) finished in third in her Novice flat debut, while junior Rachel Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) placed sixth in her Novice flat class.

In the Advanced Walk Trot Canter division, junior Natalie Fernberg (North Attleboro, Mass.) took home third place, while junior co-captain Sarah Murray, sophomore Erin Robinson (Medway, Mass.) and freshman Jillian Ruyffelaert (Northampton, Mass.) all finished in fifth place.

Sophomore Lillyanna Kuehl (Westford, Mass.) placed third in the Walk Trot division, while sophomore Ciara Barrigas (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Kira Hallberg (Foxboro, Mass.) each placed fourth.

This concludes the 2013-14 regular-season; however the Corsairs will be hosting the Region 1 IHSA Finals on Saturday, March 29, at Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, R.I. UMass Dartmouth will be sending Kieran, Colleen Waclawk (Millis, Mass.), Koury and Hallberg back into the show ring to compete at Regionals.
