Field Hockey Bows to Wellesley, 3-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Wellesley scored three goals in the second half and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Tuesday evening.
Freshman forward Nathalie Gruet (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough HS) broke s scoreless tie when she converted a pass from junior midfielder Allison Robbins (Bennington, VT/Holderness School) at 39:38.
Freshman forward Lellie Lukens (Falls Church, VA/Episcopal HS) made it 2-0 with a goal just under four minutes later, and Robbins capped the scoring when she re-directed a pass from sophomore midfielder Alex Azzi (Rye, NH/Philips Exeter HS) off a penalty corner at 47:11.
The match marked Senior Night for the Corsairs, and senior defender Maille Lynch-Gilbert (Petersham, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) was honored prior to the start.
"Part of tonight's strategy was to make Senior Night and our last home game of the regular season really about the whole team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "We were able to play everyone, and we were thinking about prepping for our next conference game and celebrating our last home game. We played well in the first half, and we wanted to make sure that we were able to get everyone in. In order to succeed on Saturday and in the playoffs, we need to have everyone on board. We want to play smart and play together."
The Blue outshot the Corsairs, 14-4. Sophomore goalkeepers Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) and Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) combined to make seven saves for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore Brit Macisz (Topsfield, MA/Pingree HS) made four stops for Wellesley.
The Corsairs dropped to 9-8 with the loss, while the Blue improved to 9-8 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Mount Holyoke Thursday evening. Wellesley will host Clark Saturday.
