PAWTUCKET, R.I. – For the second time this season, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seniors Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) and Haley Donahay (Cranston, R.I.) swept the Little East Conference Field Hockey weekly defensive awards for the Corsairs.
Burke was bestowed with her conference-best fourth LEC Goalkeeper of the Week honor after registering her third and fourth shutouts of the season. On Oct. 19, she turned aside 13 shots as the Corsairs picked up a 3-0 non-conference victory at Roger Williams. Two days later, Burke posted her seventh double-digit save total on the fall with 11 stops as the Corsairs dispatched Keene State 2-0 at Cressy Field. On the season, she sits atop the LEC statistical rankings with 154 saves, and is second in the league with her .842 save percentage.
UMass Dartmouth’s defense was once again anchored by captain Donahay, who collected her second Defensive Player of the Week award of the year. With two shutouts, the Corsairs rose to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in league play with Saturday’s Senior Day victory over Keene State. Donahay potted the Corsairs’ first goal of the game, converting out of a scrum to notch her fourth goal of the season. The senior is in the midst of her best offensive season with 11 points so far.
The Corsairs secured the No. 6 seed for the 2017 Little East Conference Tournament with Saturday’s win. UMass Dartmouth travels to Simmons this evening at 7 p.m. and Wellesley on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as tune-ups for Friday’s 7 p.m. quarterfinal matchup at No. 3 seed Plymouth State.
