SALEM, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth earned its first Little East Conference victory of the season, topping the Vikings of Salem State 2-1 as freshman Desarai Melendez (Brockton, Mass.) deposited her first collegiate goal to lead her team to victory in extra time.

How it Happened
Following a scoreless first-half, the hosts jumped ahead in the 37th minute as Courtney Kilgore (Wakefield, Mass.) took a feed from Alyssa Drouin (Methuen, Mass.) before converting her first marker of the season for a 1-0 lead.
The goal awoke the offense of the Corsairs as they peppered the opposing net seven times following the game's opening goal.
With just over 10 minutes remaining, UMass Dartmouth broke through as senior Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) collected a rebound in front of the cage before passing to Delaney Burns (Wayne, N.J.) who converted her second goal of the season, knotting the score at one apiece.
The visitors continued its momentum into extra-time, pressing offensively as it targeted the net six times in the opening three minutes. Melendez came in relief of Mary Brown, and the refreshed attacker came through less than a minute later, netting the game-winning goal.
By the Numbers
- UMass Dartmouth outshot Salem State 26-2, a new season-high for the Corsairs.
- Burns was active on the offensive end, finishing the game with a season-high nine shots. Brown and Kish added four shots apiece.
