AUBURNDALE, Mass. -- Three different players scored goals to lead Lasell to a 3-2 non-league college field hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field.
Junior Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) staked the host Lasers (7-4) to the early advantage when she converted a pass from senior Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) in the 14th minute, but junior Hailey Boucher (Leicester, Mass.) evened matters for the visiting Corsairs (1-7) with her first tally of the season just over four minutes later. Junior Mindy Esposito (Sunderland, Mass.) gave Lasell the lead for good off of Flannery’s second assist of the day in the 26th minute of action, and that score held up until the closing minute when junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) netted what proved to be a key insurance marker with 51 seconds to play for the hosts, as senior Mary Brown (Leicester, Mass.) accounted for the final margin by converting a penalty corner feed from junior Bridget Harrington (Florence, Mass.) with no time remaining.
Freshman Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) picked up her third win of the season by making four first half saves in the triumph for Lasell, while senior Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) made 11 stops in net in the setback for UMass Dartmouth. The Lasers outshot the Corsairs by a 16-6 margin overall (14-6 on goal) and held a 10-5 edge in penalty corners for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Castleton in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field beginning at Noon, while Lasell will be idle until next Thursday, October 4th when the Lasers travel to Bristol, R.I. to square off with Roger Williams in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 pm.
