"A loss early on can be a gift, we will continue to work harder and our game will continue to improve," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "We have a lot of individual talent, and once the chemistry comes, I'll feel a lot better. This is a good test for us. We have a lot of conference matches ahead, and we have to just take them one at a time."
UMass Dartmouth out shot Western Connecticut, 13-11. Sophomore goalkeepers Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) and Lauren O'Brien(Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) combined to make four saves for UMD, while Alyssa Picariello made six for WCSU.
The Corsairs dropped to 3-4 and 2-1 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Colonials improved to 7-2 and 3-1 in LEC action with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Worcester State Wednesday evening
