FITCHBURG, MA- Sophomore forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) scored 2:41 into the game and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team made it stand up, blanking host Fitchburg State, 1-0, Wednesday night.
Taylor converted a pass from senior midfielder Becca Festinger (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) for the only goal of the game, firing a shot past FSC goaltender Abbie Brown, who made five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Gallo ((East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) made seven saves for the Corsairs.
"Fitchburg State is a very aggressive team, and we did a good job of sticking to our game plan," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "I felt pretty good about our control of the game. We wanted to stick to our game plan and play at our tempo, and we probably did the best job we've done all season of getting off to a good start. We also ended the game strong. We're happy with the win. in our conference, we have to take it one game at a time."
The Falcons outshot the Corsairs, 14-12. UMD improved to 6-4 and 4-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Falcons dropped to 4-3 and 2-2 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Salem State Saturday.
