NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- Junior forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) and senior defender Maille Lynch-Gilbert (Petersham, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) each scored twice to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Eastern Connecticut State, in a Little East Conference match at Cressy Field Tuesday evening.
Lynch-Gilbert opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 21:38 mark. Taylor added goals at 43:19 and 56:05, with junior forward Erica Allan (Amherst, MA/Amherst HS) assisting on her second goal, before Lynch-Gilbert closed the scoring on a penalty stroke at the 64:01 mark.
"We were able to finish off a couple of good scoring opportunities," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach "Maille stepped up from the backfield on the first goal of the game. She stepped up, took the ball into the circle and took a shot and that was what we needed. She also scored on a penalty stroke, and Eleanor scored two nice goals. Our defense was tight, and we made it hard for them to approach the circle. They were well-organized, and made good decisions."
The Corsairs outshot the Warriors, 19-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) made four saves for UMD, while senior Danielle Reichardt (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township HS) made 12 stops for ECSU.
The Corsairs improved to 6-4 and 5-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Warriors dropped to 1-10 and 0-6 in LEC action with the defeat.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Wesleyan Thursday evening. Eastern Connecticut will host Salem State Saturday.
