NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior forward Liz Chabot (Rye, NY/Rye HS) scored twice to lead visiting Wesleyan to a 5-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s field hockey team in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Thursday evening.
Chabot scored the first goal of the match at 17:42 of the first half. She also scored the fourth goal for the Cardinals at 38:03 of the second half.
Senior Morgan McCauley (Rye, NY/Rye HS) scored the Cardinals' second goal, and assisted on the third. She converted a pass from sophomore midfielder Amber Bruckner (Port Jefferson, NY/E.L. Vandermeulen HS) and scored at 26:25 of the first half, then set up a goal by junior midfielder Ashley McLaren (Essex Junction, VT/Essex HS) off a penalty corner at 27:43. Freshman forward Jess Hanway (Stamford, CT/Rye, NY CDS) scored the final goal for Wesleyan at 53;43.
"We didn't come out with our game tonight," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "My team realizes that they have a lot more work to put in, so we'll see what the rest of the week brings. We play teams like this to prepare, and to highlight some of our weak spots, so we can correct them before the next conference game."
The Cardinals outshot the Corsairs, 16-2. Sophomore goalkeepers Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) and Lauren O'Brien(Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) combined to make 10 saves for UMD, while junior goalkeeper Tori Redding (Branford, CT/Branford HS) did not have to make a single save in recording the shutout for Wesleyan.
The Corsairs dropped to 6-5 with the defeat, while the Cardinals improved to 5-4 with the victory.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Southern Maine Saturday. Wesleyan will host Bates Saturday.
