NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Junior forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) scored with 26:53 remaining in the second half to break a 2-2 tie and lift the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over host Bridgewater State in a Little East Conference match at the Swenson Athletic Complex Saturday.
Taylor took a short pass from freshman midfielder Anna Bohrenberger (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) and scored the game-winning goal
Junior defender Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) and sophomore defender Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, RI/North Kingstown HS) scored goals just over five minutes apart in the first half to stake the Corsairs to a 2-0 lead.
The Bears came back at the start of the second half. Shelby Farland scored 2:14 into the second half, and Megan Cullinane tied the game less than two minutes later.
"Being up 2-0, I knew it wasn't a big enough lead," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "As we anticipated, Bridgewater had a strong team, and we knew it would be a fight to the end. Our corners were on today, and we were able to finish a few key opportunities."
The Corsairs outshot the Bears, 10-9. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) was credited with one save for UMD, while Cassie Johansen made five saves for BSU.
The Corsairs improved to 8-6 and 7-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Bears dropped to 10-4 and 5-3 in LEC action with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Fitchburg State Wednesday evening.
