Lauren O'Brien Earns LEC Honors Again

Oct. 26, 2010

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the second week in a row, freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team has earned a Little East Conference honor.

O'Brien, who was named Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week last week, has been named LEC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week.

O'Brien shut out both Little East Conference opponents last week, posting a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage as the Corsairs blanked Eastern Connecticut State and Framingham State. She made three saves last week to earn her first two collegiate shutouts.

"I am very proud of Lauren for the work she has been doing back there in goal," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "My focus as a coach is always to build a very solid defense, one that communicates well and one that is comprised of individuals who will fight for each other from start to finish. Lauren is the type of player that you want to fight for--to protect--as her teammate. I feel her success stems from her work ethic, her true love for this sport and her desire to compete at a high level for her teammates."

The Corsairs are 12-5 and 9-0 in the Little East Conference and will return to action when they host Mount Holyoke Wednesday evening.
