CHANDLER, AZ-Senior midfielder Becca Festinger (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team has received a prestigious honor. Festinger has been chosen play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior Game. The game, which includes top seniors from throughout the nation, is scheduled for Sunday, November 21 at Christopher Newport College in Newport News, VA.
Festinger, who earned Little East Conference first team All-Conference honors last year, ranks third among Corsairs this season with four goals and seven assists for 15 points. She is the only LEC player chosen for the game, and is the first player to represent UMD.
"It is amazing for Becca and for us to be recognized," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "Our first NCAA appearance was last year, but the strength of our non-conference schedule has gotten us to the level where we are. When I recruited Becca, I knew she could play at any level. She is very focused on her academics, and she is a good fit here. I'm very excited to see someone represent our school, and to be recognized without a crazy amount of stats. Becca does such a god job controlling the midfield; it is great to see her recognized on a national level."
The Corsairs are 13-7, and will host Keene State in a LEC semi-final playoff game Thursday at Cressy Field.
