CHANDLER, AZ-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team have earned 2010 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association post-season honors.
Senior midfielder Becca Festinger (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) has been named first team All-New England West Region, while senior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/Quinnipiac) has been named second team All-New England West Region.
Festinger, one of the team captains, ranked third in scoring for the Corsairs with five goals and seven assists for 17 points. She was tied for fifth in assists in the Little East Conference. Kinchla was second on the team with 19 goals and six assists for 44 points. She LED the LEC in game-winning goals, was fourth in goals, was tied for fourth in points, ranked seventh in both goals and points per game, and was tied for ninth in assists.
"We are very proud to be recognized within such a strong region," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "Becca played a very important role for us as a center midfielder, and I could not be more proud of her efforts as a team captain and as a player. Stephanie has been a player who I have had a pleasure to coach for three years after she transferred from Quinnipiac University. She is a natural all-around athlete who makes the toughest plays look simple. I'm so glad that both Becca and Stephanie got to end their season with a Little East Conference Championship, and a second straight appearance in the NCAAs."
The Corsairs finished the season with a 15-8 record, won the Little East Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships for the second year in a row.
