How it Happened
Eight different Corsairs registered at least one point on the game, with Longo leading the way at six points including four goals and two assists. Giangrande tallied an assist to go along with her goal total, while senior Kathryn Gibb (Georgetown, Mass.) wreaked havoc on the Buccaneers all around the field with a goal, an assist, six draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Mass. Maritime's Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) was the game's highest scorer with five goals and a pair of assists, with five other Buccaneers tallying a goal apiece. Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) paced the defensive effort with three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
Giangrande's first two collegiate goals opened up the scoring on the game, as the freshman gave the Corsairs the early lead with a free position goal followed by a man-down goal at 20:07. UMass Dartmouth then extended its lead comfortably for the remainder of the first half. Longo bumped the visitors up 3-1 before junior Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) buried her first goal of the season at 10:39.
With a 4-2 lead, Giangrande scored her second man-down goal in as many opportunities on the half. As time ticked down on the period, junior Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) led UMass Dartmouth into halftime with a 6-2 advantage.
Kish connected on a Longo pass to start the final 30 minutes for her second goal of the game, and at 21:08, Gibb potted a look from Riley to kick off a four-goal UMass Dartmouth run. Sophomore Angela Correia (Bridgewater, Mass.) registered her first goal of the season during the streak, and Giangrande pushed the lead to its highest point of 12-4 at 18:58.
The Buccaneers would eventually respond with their own four-goal streak to jump back within four with just under five minutes remaining, but freshman Brooke Martel (Haverhill, Mass.) halted the run with her first career goal at 2:24. Longo and Hunt each scored once more to put the game at its final margin.
