NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team raced to a 12-0 halftime lead and defeated visiting Anna Maria, 17-1, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Tuesday afternoon.
Seven different players scored for the Corsairs in the first half. Freshman midfielder Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth High) scored three first-half goals for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore attacker Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS/SCSU) and junior midfielder Allison Trearchis (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) each scored twice.
UMD took a 14-0 lead before the Amcats' freshman midfielder Marie Barral (Worcester, MA/Claremont Academy) scored at 8:40 of the second half.
O'Rourke finished with four goals, while Carlucci, Trearchis, junior midfielder Kara Basque (Plainville, MA/King Phillip Regional HS/Sacred Heart), sophomore midfielder Larissa Basque (Plainville, MA/King Phillip Regional HS/Sacred Heart) and junior attacker Gillian Carey (Waltham, MA/Waltham HS/UMass) scored twice each.
UMass Dartmouth out shot Anna Maria, 27-14. Junior goalkeeper Liz Miller (Littleton, MA/Westford Academy/New Hampshire) made four saves, while freshman Katherine Chousa (Norwood, MA/Norwood HS) made 10 saves for the Amcats.
"Anna Maria is a new team and we wanted to be respectful of their development, but we still ran all of our plays," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "Our captains were outstanding today, and Allison O'Rourke played very well. We didn't face that many shots, but Liz Miller did very well with the shots that we did face. We will now focus our efforts on facing Southern Maine Saturday."
The Corsairs improved to 2-6 with the victory, while the Amcats fell to 1-6 in defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match Saturday. The Amcats will host Nichols Thursday afternoon.
