CAPE COD, MA-Senior midfielder Marie Spang (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team has been honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Spang was named a second team ECAC Division III New England All-Star. She was the only Little East Conference player so honored.
Spang led the Corsairs in 2008 with 42 goals, and was second with 59 points. She was fourth in the Little East Conference in points per game, sixth in assists per game and tied for second in points per game. A first team All-Conference selection, she was also a team captain.
"This is a great way for Marie to finish her collegiate career," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "She has been a two-time first team All-Little East Conference selection, a team captain, a Dean's List student, and now an ECAC All-Star. She was an average player when she started, but through hard work and a continual thirst for knowledge, she rose to these well-deserved successes. Her career and achievements at UMass Dartmouth will be long remembered, both for her prowess as a student, and as an outstanding member of the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team."
This season, the Corsairs finished 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the Little East Conference. They hosted a first round conference playoff game, and advanced to the semi-finals of the conference playoffs.
