April 13, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team have been honored by the Little East Conference. Junior goalkeeper Liz Miller (Littleton, MA/Westford Academy/New Hampshire) was named Little East Conference Goalie of the Week, while freshman midfielder Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) was named LEC Rookie of the Week.

Miller allowed nine goals in two games last week, posting a 4.50 goals-against average and a .640 save percentage as the Corsairs defeated Anna Maria and Southern Maine. She made 12 saves against the Huskies and had 16 saves for the week. She has started in goal in all three of UMass Dartmouth's victories this season. O'Rourke led the Corsairs last week with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points. She had six goals and two assists against Southern Maine after scoring four times and adding three assists against the Amcats. She is UMD's leading scorer this season, with 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points.

"Allison continues to develop as the kind of offensive player we want her to be," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "We're very pleased with this honor, and we hope she can continue to play a major role on offense. She shows unusual poise for a freshman player at a new position. Liz came from the midfield to the goalkeeping position, and has worked really hard and embraced it. We've worked with her on video and he has been very receptive. We are pleased that she has been honored, and we hope that her success continues."

The Corsairs are 3-6 and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. They will return to action when they host Rhode Island College Tuesday evening. UMASS DARTMOUTH LACROSSE
