Women's Soccer Picked Fifth in LEC Poll

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.

The Corsairs received 29 points in the poll, six points behind fourth-place UMass Boston, and five points ahead of sixth-place Plymouth State.

Eastern Connecticut State and Keene State were picked to fill the top two spots in the poll, with the Warriors receiving five first place votes and 58 points, and the Owls one first place vote and 57 points. Western Connecticut State was picked to finish third with two first place votes and 52 points. Southern Maine and Rhode Island College held down the final two spots.

"After being selected to finish eighth in 2011, we are pleased that we were picked to finish fifth this year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "We are working hard to improve and break into the top tier of teams. We are excited to see what this year's combination of returning players and newcomers can accomplish."

The Corsairs finished 7-11-2 overall and 2-4-1 and in fifth place in LEC play last year. UMass Dartmouth will open their season at home against Curry on Saturday, September 1st.
