NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team will open 2012 Little East Conference playoff action on the road when they visit Keene State Wednesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Owl Sports Complex.
The Corsairs will take an 11-4-2 record into the match. They finished at 4-3 in the LEC and tied Keene State for fourth place, but the Owls, who are 11-8-1, earned the higher seed by virtue of their 3-2 overtime win over the Corsairs at KSC October 20th.
The overall record is UMD's best since beginning Little East play in 1996. The only other times that the Corsairs were .500 or better was 2004, when they went 10-8-1 but were 2-4-1 in conference play and were seeded sixth in the tournament, and 1996, when they went 7-7-2. This is UMass Dartmouth's eighth trip to the LEC Tournament since its inception in 1999. The Corsairs have been seeded fifth three times and fourth four times and have yet to win a game.
UMass Dartmouth has allowed just 14 goals in 17 games this season, and junior goalkeeper Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill), a two-sport star who represented the track team at the NCAA Division III Championships last spring, has played every minute in goal and recorded 11 shutouts, including five in succession between September 18th and 29th. Three of UMass Dartmouth's four losses have come in overtime.
The winner of Wednesday's match advances to the semi-finals at UMass Boston Saturday.
