NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the second consecutive game, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team pitched a shutout.
The Corsairs scored twice in each half, blanking visiting Salve Regina, 4-0, at Cressy Field. Wednesday.
UMass Dartmouth scored twice late in the first half to break a scoreless tie and take command. Freshman midfielder Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim HS) connected with 3:48 left in the first half, assisted by sophomore midfielder Megan Debarros (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS). Senior midfielder Kathleen Landers (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) made it 2-0 when she converted a pass from junior midfielder Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) and scored 22 seconds before the halftime buzzer.
Gonsalves and senior forward Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) scored for UMass Dartmouth in the second half. Both goals were assisted by senior midfielder Jordan Lipner-Riza (Worcester, MA/Burncoat HS/University of New Haven).
Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Butts (Milford, MA/Mount St. Charles Academy) earned her second consecutive shutout for UMass Dartmouth, making two saves, while freshman Carly Montgomery (Kellenberg Memorial HS) stopped 13 shots for the Seahawks. The Corsairs outshot SRU, 29-5.
UMass Dartmouth improved to 1-0-1 with the victory, while Salve Regina dropped to 0-2-0 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Connecticut College and Coast Guard this weekend. Salve Regina will host Wheaton Saturday.
