NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College opened the season with a 5-1 triumph over UMass-Dartmouth in the City of New London Soccer Classic Saturday.
Coast Guard will meet UMass Dartmouth Sunday afternoon at noon at the Coast Guard Waterfront Turf Field.
Sophomore Lilly Cannon (West Hartford, Conn.) and first year forward Leah Salituro (Fanwood, N.J.) both had a goal and an assist to lead the Connecticut College Camels in their 5-1 triumph.
Rebecca Raymond (Lowell, Mass.), Libby Thomas (Cumberland, Maine) and Steph Gettings (Greenwich, Conn.) chipped in with goals for the winning side.
Annie Higgins (West Hartford, Conn.) added an assist with some stellar play at central midfield.
Rookie net-minder Bella Hall (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made two saves in the triumph.
UMass Dartmouth senior Tori Pierce (Tiverton, R.I.) contributed a second half score on a direct kick for the visitors.
Rookie net-minder Nicole Butts (Milford, Mass.) made four saves in the contest for the Corsairs.
Cannon accounted for the only goal of the opening half in the 19th minute of play. Right at the 18 yard line, Cannon was able to beat a pair of Corsair defenders and unload for the goal.
The score would stay the same until the 53rd minute of action. Salituro was able to redirect a Higgins shot at the right post side of the goal. Raymond tacked on another goal with a direct kick in the 56th minute of action and the Camels continued to pull away for the 5-1 win.
