Women's Soccer Defeats Mitchell, 1-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team walked away with a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College in a non-conference match up Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.

UMass Dartmouth (5-2-1) struggled to find the back of the net until Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA / Agawam) buried a header on a throw-in from Tori Pierce (Tiverton, RI / Tiverton) in the 72nd minute. The lone goal from Van Ness proved to be the deciding goal in the 1-0 contest.

The Corsairs took 44 shots, but managed to only land 15 on goal. Mitchell goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford made 14 saves in the losing effort.

Freshman goalkeepers Ajyanna Jones (Boston, MA / John D. O'Bryant) and Nicole Butts (Milford, MA / Miunt St. Charles Academy) each saw 45 minutes of playing time for UMass Dartmouth.  Both keepers saw zero shots as the Corsair's recorded their fifth shutout of the season.

UMass Dartmouth (1-0 LEC) is back in action on Sept. 28 when they travel to UMass Boston (4-3, 1-0 LEC) for a 1pm Little East matchup.
