WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore Inonge Kaloustian (Bowie, Md.) netted the golden goal 7:40 into overtime to lift Clark to a 2-1 non-league college women’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Granger Field.
The host Cougars (5-1-1) had to overcome an early deficit after junior Juliana Fleming (Boston, Mass.) had staked the visiting Corsairs (3-4-1) into the lead just a minute into the match with her first goal of the season on feeds from junior Sabrina Costa (Fall River, Mass.) and senior Taryn Carley (Kingston, Mass.). Freshman Jamie Joseph (Cazenovia, N.Y.) evened matters for Clark in the 12th minute with an unassisted tally, and that score stood up until Kaloustian’s heroics in the extra session lifted the hosts to their triumph.
Junior Alison Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) picked up her fourth win of the season with a seven-save effort in goal for Clark, while sophomore Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made 10 stops (one off her career-high) in the setback for UMass Dartmouth. The Cougars outshot the Corsairs by a 22-11 margin overall (12-8 on goal), including all four shots in the overtime period, as the hosts also took five of the six corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth heads to Willimantic, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to take on Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference match that begins at 1:00 pm, while Clark travels to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday morning to square off with Babson in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference clash beginning at 11:30 am.
