DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Junior Ella Rath (Pawcatuck, Conn.) netted a pair of goals, including the equalizer with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, to lift UMass Dartmouth to a 2-2 Little East Conference women’s soccer draw with Keene State Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.
Rath staked the host Corsairs (3-5-2, 1-1-1 Little East) to an early lead when she converted a pass from fellow junior Nerida Montrond (Lynn, Mass.) in the 18th minute, and that score held up until the 70th minute when sophomore Sarah Carron (Feeding Hills, Mass.) tallied twice in a five minute span on feeds from sophomore Jordyn Abasciano (Auburn, Mass.) to give the visiting Owls (2-4-1, 0-1-1 LEC) a 2-1 advantage. Rath evened matters for UMass Dartmouth with her second marker of the night that was once again set up by Montrond, and that closed out the scoring for the contest, as the Corsairs recorded the lone shot on goal in the extra sessions.
Sophomore Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made one save in the draw for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore Shelby Offord (Shelton, Conn.) made 11 stops in goal for Keene State. The Corsairs outshot the Owls by a 29-7 margin overall that included a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal, as the hosts also took eight of the 10 corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth heads into Boston on Saturday afternoon to square off with UMass Boston in a Little East clash that begins at 4:00 pm, while Keene State hosts Rhode Island College in a Little East match-up on Saturday afternoon in Keene, N.H. beginning at 3:00 pm.
