DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Junior Chrissy Conley (East Providence, R.I.) netted a goal and an assist as Springfield used three second half tallies to post a 3-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.
The two squads battled to a scoreless draw at the break before sophomore Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) gave the visiting Pride (4-0-1) the only marker they would need 18 seconds after intermission on a deflection from in front of the net, and Conley extended that margin to 2-0 in the 60th minute when she converted junior Sydney Wine’s (New Braintree, Mass.) corner kick from 10 yards out. Freshman Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) closed out Springfield’s scoring with her fifth goal of the fall on a Conley feed with 8:51 remaining in the match, and senior Jackie Davis (Ringoes, N.J.) made that stand up in net for the visitors by making five saves to pick up her third win of the season.
Sophomore Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made eight stops in goal (four in each half) in the setback for the host Corsairs (2-2-1), as Springfield outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 19-9 margin overall (11-5 on goal) and took nine of the 10 corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Connecticut College in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while Springfield heads to New London, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Coast Guard in its New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference opener that begins at 2:00 pm.
