NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Sophomore forward Samantha Abro (Northborough, MA/Algonquin Regional HS) scored twice to lead visiting Nichols to a 2-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Thursday afternoon.
Abro converted a pass from senior midfielder Holly Ventura (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) to break a scoreless tie in the 26th minute, and then scored again to make it 2-0 with 8:23 remaining to play.
The Corsairs outshot the Bison, 14-13. Senior goalkeepers Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) of UMass Dartmouth and Nicole Johnson of Nichols each made five saves.
"It was a tough game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "It was our first home game, and we didn't play the way we are capable of playing. It was a little frustrating, but we are going to take every game and move on and learn from it. We'll go back to work, and hope it all comes together on Saturday."
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 1-2 with the defeat, while Nichols improved to 2-0 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Smith Saturday. Nichols will host Endicott Saturday.
