NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Bridgewater State scored twice within a span of 9:24 in the second half and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Tuesday evening.
Junior midfielder Kristina Ortiz (Dedham, MA/Dedham HS) gave the Bears a 1-0 lead when she picked up a loose ball and scored in the 15th minute. Senior midfielder Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) made it 2-0 when she scored on a 30-yard shot in the 55th minute, and senior midfielder Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA/Rockland HS) scored the final goal of the game in the 64th minute.
"It was a hard fought game, and I don't think the final score reflected the way the game went," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Carla DeSantis. "They took advantage of their opportunities, and their keeper played an excellent game tonight and stopped a lot of our chances. We had a great effort tonight, and I think we can compete with anyone on our schedule."
The Bears out shot the Corsairs, 14-9. Junior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) made six saves for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) made eight saves for BSC.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 4-7-1 with the defeat, while Bridgewater State improved to 4-5-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Keene State Saturday. The Bears will host Worcester State Saturday.
