SPRINGFIELD, MA-Host Springfield scored twice in the first 15 minutes and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team, 5-0, in a non-conference match at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex Tuesday evening.
Katie Mantie scored both early goals for the Pride. Her unassisted goal in the 13th minute made it 1-0, and she converted a pass from Erica Donnelly in the 15th minute to make it 2-0.
Vicky DiNatale made it 3-0 when she scored on a penalty kick with 38 seconds remaining in the first half. Jackie Mocardelli and Kim Rasmussen scored in the second half for Springfield.
"Springfield is a great team, they just got ranked fourth in New England, and we knew coming in it was going to be a tough game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "We like to play a stronger schedule to help us against conference opponents. (Sophomore forward) Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, MA/Tri-County HS) created a few chances, and (junior goalkeeper) Stephanie Borges (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) made some good saves."
The Pride outshot the Corsairs, 24-6. Borges made five saves for UMass Dartmouth, while Erin Greenstein and Hanna MacDougall combined to stop three shots for Springfield.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 7-7-1 with the defeat, while Springfield improved to 8-3-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Southern Maine Saturday.
