NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior midfielder Angela Wozniak (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow HS) scored twice to lead visiting Western Connecticut State to a 3-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team in the final Little East Conference match of the regular season at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Wozniak scored the only goal of the first half on a breakaway in the 40th minute. Senior midfielder Nicole Seiber (Newtown, CT/Immaculate HS) made it 200 with another breakaway goal in the 56th minute. Senior defender Kelsey Boothby (Holbrook, MA/Holbrook HS) cut the Colonials' lead to 2-1 with a high shot just under the crossbar in the 66th minute, but Wozniak scored again in the 85th minute to give WCSU a two-goal advantage.
WCSU out shot UMD, 12-19. Freshman goalkeeper Jen Warren (Somerset, MA/Bishop Feehan HS) and junior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) each played a half and combined to make seven saves for the Corsairs, while sophomore Molly Miller (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug HS) made seven saves for the Colonials.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 6-11-1 and 2-5 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Western Connecticut improved to 9-9-1 and 4-2-1 with the victory. Both teams will return to action when they begin Little East Conference playoff action Tuesday, the sixth-seeded Corsairs traveling to UMass Boston, and the fourth-seeded Colonials hosting Southern Maine.
