Women's Soccer Picked Eighth in LEC Pre-Season Poll
Aug. 23, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team has been picked to finish eighth in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 15 points in the poll, three points behind seventh-place Rhode Island College.
Eastern Connecticut State and Western Connecticut State were picked to fill the top two spots in the poll, with the Warriors receiving six first place votes and 62 points, and the Colonials the other two first place votes and 54 points. Keene State, UMass Boston, Southern Maine and Plymouth State held down the next two spots.
"I think that the poll went the way it was expected to go, after last year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "Last season, we tied Eastern Connecticut, which said a lot about our team. With 15 new players this year, we have a different aura, and with our talent and returning players, I think we can surprise people this year."
The Corsairs finished 3-12-1 overall and 0-6-1 in LEC play last year. UMass Dartmouth will begin their 2011 schedule at Gordon Thursday, September 1st.
