NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's softball team is hoping to improve when they begin their season this weekend. The Corsairs will open their season when they play St. Joseph's (Maine) and Saint Mary's (IN) on the first day of their spring trip Monday in Fort Myers, FL.
The Corsairs return one senior in outfielder Michelle Conway (Burrillville, RI/Burrillville HS) and a trio of .300 hitters in junior infielder Kaitlin Hogan (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen HS), junior outfielder Elizabeth Mulready (Rockland, MA/Rockland HS) and junior first baseman Brittany Eldridge (Raynham, MA/Bridgewater-Raynham HS).
Junior catcher Hannah Rounds (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln HS), junior outfielder Bethany Berube (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS), junior infielder Tracie Calvert (Sandwich, MA/Sandwich HS), junior catcher Diane Barry (Norwood, MA/Norwood HS) and sophomore infielder Taylor Ham (Hingham, MA/Hingham HS) also return. Eldridge returns to lead the pitching staff.
"Our team is full of heart, passion and determination," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amy Sasin. "Our strength is our ability to stick together and to leave everything on the field. We don't have any one key player, we are a team, and therefore, everyone's role is key."
The Little East Conference is traditionally very competitive, and Sasin expects this year to be no different. "The conference is tough," said Sasin. "It is filled with very competitive teams, but we're ready to come out fighting."
