Swimmers Finish Strong at NEISDA Championships
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dart mouth's swimming team finished up well on the third and final day of action at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Division II and III Swimming Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center Sunday.
The women finished ninth with 461 points, while the men finished 11th with 118 points.
For the women, senior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was 10th in the 1650 yard freestyle in 18:57.04, sophomore Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical HS/Bryant) was fourth in the 200 butterfly, breaking the school record with an ECAC Open A cut time of 2:11.89, junior Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS) finished 12th in the 100 yard individual medley in 1:05.16, and the 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS), Conlon, senior Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/ Wachusett Regional HS) and Kidney broke the school record when they finished seventh in 3:47.11.
For the men, the 400 freestyle relay team of junior Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), junior Josh Potcner (Holbrook, MA/Cardinal Spellman HS), sophomore Julian Jiminian (Springfield, MA/Renaissance HS) and freshman Michael Gryss (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS), finished in 3:42.99 with season and personal best split times. . "We wrapped up the weekend with some great performances," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "I am extremely proud of our team's performance throughout the weekend. It has been a while since the women's team set school records. The records broken this weekend were set in the late 1990s, and in 2004. We are excited to be taking two student-athletes, Katelyn Kidney and (sophomore diver) Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS) to compete at the ECAC Open meet in Annapolis this weekend."
