Swimmers Sweep Gordon

WENHAM, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's swimming team visiting swept host Gordon at the Bennett Athletic Center Tuesday evening.

The Corsair women won, 133-98, while the men prevailed, 118.5-104.5.

For the women, sophomore Ally McCarville (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) won the 1000 yard freestyle in 12:36.67, freshman Caroline Corcoran (West Boylston, MA/ West Boylston) took the 200 freestyle in 2:06.16 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.02, senior Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.83 and the 50 backstroke in 31.65 seconds, senior Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) took the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.11 and the 50 breaststroke in 34.12 seconds, junior Katelyn Kidney (Lynn, MA / Lynn Classical) won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.68, and the 200 medley relay team of Conlon, Cooper, Corcoran and Kidney took first place in 2:01.48.

 

On the men's side, freshman Robert Braza (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:33.85, freshman Maxwell Kearns (Marion, MA/Bishop Stang HS/Northeastern) took the 200 freestyle in 1:58.72, freshman Bryan Baranick (Assonet, MA/Apponequet HS) won the 500 freestyle in 5:18.47, the 100 backstroke in 59.46 seconds, and the 50 backstroke in 28.49 seconds, sophomore Michael Gryss (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) took the 100 butterfly in 1:01.61, sophomore Timothy Doucette (Middleboro, MA/Middleboro HS) claimed the 50 freestyle in 23.93 seconds, and the 200 medley relay team of Baranick, sophomore Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS/Roger Williams), Gryss and Doucette was first in 1:48.05.

 

"We had a good meet this evening," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "We swam some of our best times of the season, coming off double sessions. It was nice to have swimmers compete in different events to have a chance to qualify for championships. We are looking ahead to a very competitive meet against WPI on Thursday."

 

UMass Dartmouth's women are now 6-2, while the men are 3-3. Gordon's men are 1-8, while the women are 0-9.  The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Worcester Polytechnic Institute Thursday evening.
