UMass Dartmouth Swimming Clinches Runner-Up Team Finishes at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's swimming teams both earned runner-up team finishes on Saturday at the Commonwealth Coast Invitational, hosted by Roger Williams University.

The Basics

Men: 2nd (113.5) of 6 teams
Women: T-2nd (55) of 7 teams

How it Happened

Sophomore David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) finished top-three in five events on the afternoon, helping the Corsairs have 12 such finishes overall.  His margin of victory in the 500-yard freestyle was among the biggest at the invitational, as his time (5:07.15) was 10 seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. In the men's 200-yard medley relay, teammates Nicholas Gray (Sandisfield, Mass.), Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.), and Derek Marshall (Marion, Mass.) joined Adamski to take home second place for the men's squad, completing the race in 1:45.83.

For the women, sophomore Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) took second place in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:23.18. Later on in the day, freshman Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) was awarded third place in the 50-yard freestyle after finishing in 26.68 seconds. She then teamed up with freshman Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.), senior Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.), and Murphy in the 400-yard freestyle relay for a third place finish in 4:04.24.

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay saw the Corsairs achieve first place through a furious final-leg comeback by Adamski. Sophomore Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.), Marshall, Gray, and Adamski needed just 3:25.55 to seal the win. The quartet of junior Anthony Toscano (Massapequa, N.Y.), senior Devin Farnsworth (Leominster, Mass.), freshman Nathan Jope (East Freetown, Mass.), and Barrett finished runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.96.
