Wheaton, WPI Take Down Swimming & Diving in Tri-Meet

NORTON, Mass. – In their first action of the calendar year, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming and diving teams fell in their tri-meet against WPI and Wheaton College on Wednesday evening at the Balfour Natatorium.

How it Happened

Corsair sophomore David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) secured the lone first place finish of the evening for the swimming and diving squads, coming from behind in the 200—yard freestyle to win the race in a total of 1:48. He was later narrowly edged out by WPI sophomore Markus Zimmermann (Sammamish, WA) in the 500-yard freestyle, as the second-year swimmer secured runner-up with a time of 4:58.

In the third event on the evening, senior Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:42, with sophomore teammate Alissa Hall (Westborough, Mass.) finishing soon after. In the women's 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) was beat out by two-hundredths of a second for the third-place spot, submitting a time of 26.43 seconds.

Sophomore Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) needed under a minute to complete the 100-yard butterfly, while Harrington finished with a similar time in the same women's event. In the men's 100-yard breaststroke that featured the top eight swimmers separated by just six seconds, freshman Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) submitted a time of 1:05 to finish eighth of 16 competitors.

First-year diver Jose Guerrero (New Bedford, Mass.) placed third in the three-meter diving event, submitting a score of 223.65. He was just edged out by WPI's Randy Melanson (Attleboro, Mass.) and Wheaton's Anthony Guerrieri (Brockport, N.Y.), who accumulated scores of 284.50 and 273.35, respectively.
